After overnighting in Alamosa, CO, we did laundry, grocery shopping, and headed on down CO 17 to Chama. We're now parked in our favorite spot in the Rio Chama RV park.

I'm a bit surprised that there isn't more color in the trees. The area around Conejos and over the passes into NM were a blaze of yellow quakies last year, perhaps it's a bit early. The cottonwoods along the Chama appear to just be turning brown. I don't know what kind of conditions are required for the cottonwoods to turn, but apparently they weren't right this year. Maybe.

There are some pictures of the leaves turning on the pix'n'places page, along with the steam train heading up the hill. Well, I think so, but maybe not. Maybe it's just linked over on the left side.

I'd check it, but I'm doing this off-line. It appears, so far, that this is going to be a dial-up month. Yeah, that really does make sense, you just have to understand all the parts I left out.

The train's still running, it stops for the season somewhere 'long about mid-October, so there will be some train pix. A trip to Chama without train pix is kinda like a day without...er, no, I shan't go there.

Anyway, we stopped at the Louisiana ladies BBQ place. Real, as in cooked in a pit, not faux Q. One of the three best Q places I know of. I'm trying to talk the proprietress into setting up to do mail-order sauce. Fingers x'd. She also makes a most excellent pecan pie. A portion of which has just been made to disappear. Eatcher heart out.
